Description
Unsigned tanto with deep carving of a dragon and a ken sword. Carving is done in "Ukibori" fashion, meaning that the image is left after carving away the metal. This is a very difficult technique and is usually done by master carvers. On the reverse side, there is a carving of a ken sword with 2 "bonji" or sanskirt characters. Hamon is Nie-deki done in the style of Nobukuni School. Gunome with nie workings as activity-kinsuji, sunagashi...Jigane is itame with chikei. Old polish with a silver habaki. This sword is from an old collection, it was once papered, but the paper has been lost. Sword looks to be Nobukuni School if Koto, or a copy of a Nobukuni by the Yasutsugu School who were masters of this style.
