Katana signed "Izu
no Kami Kinmichi". Very nice katana exhibiting all the
characteristics of the famous Mishina School. The Mishina school
was based in Kyoto and housed many famous swordsmiths that are collectible
today. The Kinmichi group was one of the top five swordsmiths based
in Kyoto. The temper on this sword is a very classic example of
this school. Temper done in gunome-midare with notare mixed in,
done in nei-deki. Nice activity of ashi with very large kinsuji.
Grain pattern is a nice itame mixed with mokome. Ji-nie is present
along with chikei. Boshi is classic Mishina style and is very healthy.
Works of the Kinmichi like this one are done in Soshu-Mino tradition,
basically similar to works of the Shizu Kaneuji school. Signature
is complete on the tang, which has been slightly shortened, but
not machi raised. Chrysanthemum is engraved on the tang above the
signature. The kinmichi school is very popular due to their consistant
quality, as well as the fact that they were named in the top 5 toko-kaji
in japan during that time. Accompanied with a NBTHK Kicho Token
judging the signature as genuine. In very good polish, showing all
the characteristics very clearly. Nice gold foiled habaki and good
condition shirasaya.
Koshirae; Very good original
Higo leather handle with iron Higo fuchi-kashira with design of
falling cherry blossoms done in gold. Menuki are very good shakudo
kirimon done in the round. These menuki are of very good quality
and look to have good age to them. Tsuba design is that of Shoami
style rope wheel design done in sukashi. Iron is very good quality
and in good condition. Tsuba is also very thick and heavy. Scabbard
is a nice lacquered "burnt red" color with a very nice
iron dragonfly kojiri. |
