Very rare and unusual
Han dachi mounted katana. Complete original mounts from the 1800's.
Mounts are in very good condition. Matching silver handachi fuchi-kashira,
koiguchi, kurikata, & kojiri done in katakiribori design of
scrolling vines. Tsuba lacquered iron with plate style silver foiled
O-seppa. The handle is very very nice with a rare original double
weave string wrap (jabara maki). This type of wrap is very rare
and to find one in original condition is a treat! Menuki are gold
and copper of monkeys done very well. Scabbard is black ishime (stone
surface) with roiro mons imprinted in the surface. Blade is osuriage
mumei (name lost due to shortening), most likely from the koto period.
We had a window opened on the sword to see the jigane as well as
the hamon. Temper is very healthy with ko-nie deki. Nice mokume
with itame hada (grain pattern) showed up after the window polish.
Boshi is healthy and looks to be in the old style. It is very hard
to find blades with nice condition original mounts. This one has
all the pieces which makes it a big plus!!! (Nothing missing). |
