Description
Very rare katana signed with 2 makers. Shimada Soshu smiths Yoshisuke and Hirosuke both signed this blade and seems to be a joint effort. Shimada Yoshisuke is a very well known smith that worked in the Soshu style. This blade has a beautifully active hamon of nie-deki gunome midare with a gorgeous hada of itame with lots of chikei. A ken horimono is cut into the shinogi Soshu style and this blade looks like a copy of an older famous Soshu blade. There are no flaws, but sword could use a professional polish. If polished, this sword will be incredibly beautiful. The mountings consist of a very rare and beautiful Higo mount. Higo original mountings are very sought after in Japan as they are both very beautiful as well as utilitarian. Very very good original cloud design lacquer is in very good condition. Iron Higo fuchi kashira and kojiri are original and in good condition design of kiri and karakusa. Menuki are very nice dark deep shakudo dragons of very good quality. Tsuba is also Higo, iron plate with gold and silver nunome zogan. Due to the marks on the bottom of trhe seppadai, thistsuba looks to be that of the famous Kamiyoshi Higo Kinko School.
