Description

Nice ubu Kanmuri-otoshi tanto by Hideaki. Hideaki is the art name of Horii Toshihide given to him by the Token Hozon Kai (Sword Preservation Association) in 1913. Horii Toshihide (Hideaki) is regarded as one of the most important tosho duing the Taisho-Showa era. His tantos are rarely offered for sale and this one has many unique features.
First important feature is the rare shape, known as Kanmuri-otoshi, which resembles a Ken/Naginata combination. These Kanmuri-otoshi shape is very hard to forge and definately was a special order tanto. Another feature is that the mei is in Sosho style as well as in Tachi-mei. Finally, this signature "Hideaki Saku" was done on only on 5 tantos in August of 1927 according to company JSW records.
This tanto looks to be in good original polish with a little staining on the point.
Nice reflective ko-itame with a ko-nie deki suguha hamon. Tanto is completed with a gold foiled habaki. Also accompanying the tanto is a NBTHK Hozon paper.
