Nice tanto done in Soshu style from the Koto period. Hirazukuri in shape, this is a very nice example of Soshu style hamon and activity. Hamon is a nie deki notare with a very thick nioiguchi in places. Usually blades with a thick nioiguchi are of high quality. Long kinsuji run the length of the blade, sometimes in pairs. The nie is very fine and well done. The jigane is a mix of O Itame and masame. There is also a carving of a Ken and Bonji on one side, with 1 Bonji on the reverse. The blade has been shortened and from the tang one can see the handle of the ken horimono showing that it is original and old carving. The mune is mitsumune (3 sided) also like those of the Soshu den. A red copper old habaki and shirasaya accompany the piece. |
