Beautiful tanto by the well known Gassan Sadahito. The son of Enomoto Sadayoshi carries on the famous tradition of this school very well. This tanto is a copy of an older soshu blade, and from the work and style of the sword it looks to be a copy of a famous Sa tanto. The hamon done in a very nice bright nie deki is made up of notare with gunome ashi. In some places there is a type of double temper, and much kinsuji are seen. This blade has lots of activity with good fine bright nie. The grain pattern is very nice, itame with some masame, ji nie is seen with an abundance of chikei. The polish is done very well, a high level professional Japanese shows the swords qualities as they should be seen. Soshu den is a very hard style to do correctly, therefore it can only look correct when a master sword smith creates the utsushimono perfectly.
Enomoto Sadayoshi is well on his way to becoming one of the premier sword makers of his day. His skill is easily seen in this piece, and one can only enjoy such quality by spending much time with such an example. A beautiful gold foiled habaki and new shirasaya accompany this piece. Underpriced as a similar sword by Sadahito with the same level of polish would cost quite a bit more
