Tanto attributed to Sa of the Chilkuzen School. This tanto of hirazukuri form, is in old polish. Though difficult to see due to an old polish, the hamon consists of a shallow sugu-notare. Small kinsuji appears within the hamon. On one side, the hamon appears to have "shimi" from about 1.5 cm above the hamachi on the omote side. The ji is a itame with a type of utsuri ( hard to tell due to the old polish). Boshi is a maru, almost an o maru shape. Mune is mitsumune. There are some very small openings in the ji and ha, but otherwise in decent shape. The tang shows age, and there seems to be a signature that looks like "Sa" above the mekugi ana. According to the shirasaya, this blade is by Samonji, who was one of Masamunes 10 students. The attribution is by Honnami Choshiki, but we have to question as to the validity of this sayagaki. This tanto is accompanied by a old paper that states that this tanto was either the property of the famous samurai Yamamoto Kansuke or Takeda Harunobu. This has NOT been verified.
