Watanabe Art Museum Samurai Armour Collection - Volume 1: Kabuto & Mengu Shortly after the end of World War II, Dr. Watanabe Hajime of Tottori, Japan, began collecting Asian antiques. By the late 1970s, it was estimated that the doctor's personal collection contained well over 40,000 unique pieces, including several thousand original items of samurai armour, equipment, and related regalia. In 1978, Dr. Watanabe's collection of art and antiques was opened to the public with the establishment of the Watanabe Museum in Tottori City.
