Description

Many swords mounted in Tachi mounts later in the Edo period usually are Not true tachi blades. Here we have an example of a real tachi blade in a tachi mount. The blade is signed on the tachi mei side 2 character Kiyomitsu. This is the signature of the smith from the late Koto period from the province known as Kashu. Many swords from the Kashu and Kaga region are known for their sharpness and were popular during the Muromachi period as weapons. What is rare about this tachi is the fact that it is completely ubu (the tang is still in original condition, never shortened) and retains the signature in excellent condition. The blade has a hamon of gunome midare with ashi throughout the hamon. One side is a little more tired than the other, but in otherwise in good polish and condition. Itame hada appears throughout the ji, and the boshi is very healthy. Blade has some very very minor openings in places, but nothing serious. This blade passed the NBTHK Hozon shinsa, thus demonstrating the fact that there are no fatal flaws. The mounting is a tachi mount from around the 1800’s. All of the fittings except the tsuba are made of brass that has been lacquered black. The menuki are a set of very large red copper eels, and the tsuba is made up of sentoku with nice gold plugs in the kozuka and kogai hitsu. Blade is in shirasaya, and the mount on tsunagi. A nice package at a reasonable price. Back to School special!!!
