Supposedly the earliest dated example of the 3rd Rai Kinmichi or a missing link 2nd generation due to the date of Kanbun 5. Very super wide (3.5cm at habakimoto) strong shape, this is a very nice example of this maker. The hamon is a O gunome styled hako midare done in nie deki. Ashi and yo appear throughout the hamon. Tobiyaki is seen in places. The hada is a tight knit itame with ji nie. The boshi is extremely healthy with lots of ko ashi in the extended point. In an old good polish. Tang is ubu 1 hole but slightly modified on the mine (back of the tang) NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token accompanies the piece that is encased in a nice darkwood shirasaya with sayagaki . A really great example of a top Kyoto maker. Kyoto yakidashi included! This sword is so wide it looks short, optical illusion! |
