1st generation Hizen Masahiro katana in perfect polish. Blade is done in the style that Hizen katana were famous for (ko itame hada with suguha). Fine nie deki suguha hamon (thick nie as good ones all have) accompanies a well made ko –itame hada that contains chikei. Boshi is classic Hizen maru, and very healthy. The tang has been shortened,with 3 holes, but retains the full signature of the 1st Masahiro. Shodai Hizen Masahiro is a Jo Saku rated smith, and his blades were well known for their sharpness. In fact many Dai saku mei Tadahiro blades were made by Masahiro for the Hashimoto family.
The mounting for this blade is very good and in Mint condition. Done in the Higo style, this mount is very attractive. The fuchi kashira and kojiri are made of shakudo with the design of yanone (sukashi arrowhead) done in gold. The menuki are also gold and of the same design. All of the fittings are well carved and add elegance to the mount. The handle wrap is a Higo style doe skin on black same’. The tsuba is an iron plate that is well carved with a matching design. To finish the mount, the scabbard is a beautiful brown “Cha Ishime” lacquer with a doe skin sageo. The mounting for this blade is very nice and in perfect condition.
All in all this is a complete package in perfect condition both blade and mounts. |
