Very healthy papered katana made by Nobukuni Hisakuni in new full polish. This very thick long sword was made after the Soshu style similar to that of the Nanbokucho smith Kanemitsu. Hamon is a wide O Notare made up of nie and ko nie. Jigane is a nice well knit itame with ji nie and chikei. Tang is original signed and dated. Hisakuni is said in some books to be the later signature for Nobukuni Shigekane. From the examples such as this blade that are in existence, we can see that he possessed great skill in producing very strong well made swords, just as his predecessors in his line before him. The Nobukuni line from the Shinto period was well regarded, and this quality extended itself to the Shinshinto period.
Mountings are in very good condition. The tsuka is a well done dark blue wrap done in leather. The fuchi kashira are made of iron, with gold highites. The menuki are very large shakudo dragons also with gold highlites. The tsuba is a rounded square iron plate. The scabbard is very nice with special lacquer done of alternating stripes of shiny black and stone surface black lacquer. An iron kojiri completes the scabbard with a design of kiri and waves.
