Description |
This tsuba is an iron work styled after Soten that is signed "Hikone ju Soten sei", probably a later copy, Mid- to Late Edo Period. It is of dense forged iron that has a good weight to it, and is of round-squared shape with nikubori sukashi carving and two hitsuana with a bordered rim. The design is a typical complicated one of a Chinese garden scene with a pine tree, rocks, waterfall, and figures, in this case wise men, maybe poets. Their faces are done in copper and the surrounding surfaces are decorated with various fine zogan. This tsuba is suitable for a mount, but can also be enjoyed on its own for study... |
