Description
Very gorgeous tsuba done in one of the best nunome zogan inlay styles that I have ever seen. The use of both gold and silver for the design is very striking . Usually tsuba of this type are missing most of the inlay, thus ruining their appeal. The rim work alone is outstanding having a design of sakura blossoms and scrolling vines mixed between the use of gold and silver inlay. Though smaller in size than most katana tsuba, this is the style seen often in the Higo School. Please notice that there is no cutouts for the kozuka that is usually seen for Wakizashi or tanto. For serious collectors of Higo or iron tsuba that appreciate great work as well as condition.

Rare signed Umetada School tsuba. Signed “Umetada”, this tsuba is a very nice example from the famous Umetada School. Signed examples are few, and recently there has been another example on another webpage signed the same way being offered for around $9000!!!. Sometimes when these tsuba are signed “Umetada”, they can be the work of Myoju, or the top students. Iron plate with a well carved maple leaf on the front, with a carved 4 lobed design for the reverse. Gold and silver dots shown as snow falling appear on the surface as well. Very pleasing to the eye. NBTHK paper.

Description
There are many lower level student made Echizen Kinai tsuba seen in the United Sates and Europe. It is very refreshing to see a collector grade Kinai tsuba, as there actually were very famous for their outstanding carving. Even Yasutsugu the 1st used them for horimono on blades, and many of those swords are of Juyo Token level. Because of the high quality carving of this tsuba, and from the style of the signature, it is very possible that this tsuba is either the 2nd or 3rd Kinai master. The design is well laid out , with “life” to the design. The design is also NOT limited to the small area and still feels “free’. The iron surface is a beautiful deep brown patina. In very good condition.
