Description
Very important tsuba by the most famous Shimizu Jingo master. Tsuba such as these are rarely seen, they have been put away in collections for years, so the chance to buy one is very nil. Jingo are very well known for their excellent iron and interesting carvings of various animal motifs. They had a special way of producing their iron, but the best is that of the 1st and 2nd generations. The iron is very hard to photograph due to its “wet” like texture. This type of tsuba has to be appreciated “in hand”, and by those who understand and appreciate the highest level of iron tsuba. There are many Juyo examples of the 1st and 2nd, thus showing their importance and high skill. This tsuba is of the famous “Jingo” dragon and ken. This is a very classic design by the 1st generation, and is always well regarded. The iron plate is well worked, and very dense. The surface looks like melted dark chocolate, with a sheen that appears as if it was “wet”. The dragon is actually done in silver zogan, but since it has been oxidized, it blends into the iron surface color well. Works with silver are actually considered rare, and is stated in the Nihonto Koza as such. The patina of the iron and the silver dragon is in perfect condition. The tsuba is also very heavy as well, as most early Jingo tend to be. Serious collectors understand that tsuba of this type cannot be found easily, so here is a chance for one to have a top piece in their collection. The 1st Jingo master was reputed to be the nephew of the Hirata master Hikozo. He worked in Yatsushiro Higo under the famous Hosokawa Daimyo Sansai. NBTHK Hozon. Description
Very well known tsuba by the 2nd Jingo master. Published in the Higo Kinko Taikan, this tsuba is known as one of the best examples of early Jingo. Works by the 1st and 2nd generation Jingo masters are very rare and well sought after by collectors. The high level quality of both the iron as well as the designs of these 2 generations has made them collectable since the day that they were made. Early Jingo masters were ordered by the head of the prestigious Hosokawa family the Daimyo (Sansai) himself, as well as his successors. This tsuba is the only known early Jingo with a design full front of a snapping turtle. The famous suemon inlay of brass is the trade mark of the early Jingo masters, and the skill shows readily in this piece. The iron is incredibly good, only in hand can one appreciate the texture and quality that makes early Jingo iron so sought after. One only has to look at the expression on the turtles face to see the skill in the carving to provide such a feeling. This IS a Juyo quality piece, and either way will be submitted this year sold or not. Works by the early Higo Schools such as this do not come up often for sale. NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon to 2nd Jingo.

Description
Very nice mint condition Owari sukashi tsuba. This tsuba is in excellent condition with a custom fitted box. This tsuba has a very strong appeal to its design of brackenroot sukashi. The canted rim adds to the openness of the design, and the tsuba has a very nice “free” feeling due to the skill of the artist.. Seppadai is slightly “dished”and the rim is well made showing the grain pattern of the iron in places. This is a very good tsuba in both quality and design. It will probably go to the NBTHK for shinsa in April or May if not sold by then. In a custom fitted box. Fantastic condition. Collector grade for those serious about iron tsuba.
