| Description |
| Very rare and well done
set of deer menuki. These menuki were once used as “dashi” menuki.
That means that in addition to being menuki, they were also used as
the mekugi as well. Because of their great condition, one might think
they are not so old, but if one studies this set carefully, you can
notice that the style and feeling are like those menuki from the Momoyama
period. We believe that is the fact for this set and we are statind-that
they are from that early Edo period. Deer have been a symbol to protect
the shrines in Japan and are very popular, but rare motif. |
