| Very nice large katana sized example of one of the most famous makers during the late Edo period. The Ishiguro School was one of the most well known Schools and very famous for their works with birds and flowers incorporated into the designs. Masayoshi’s early name was Ishiguro Koreyoshi. He later became the 2nd generation Masayoshi, but the 1st Ishiguro Masayoshi. This type of signature is rare, as it states he did the carving. There are examples seen in other books, but this is the 1st time for us to see this signature. According to the Kinko Jiten, he is rated at the highest rank level for his skill. This set of Fuchi Kashira is a very nice example of his quality and skill. The shakudo is deep black of the highest quality. They are very heavy in weight which shows that they probably have a very high gold content. The carving of course is done very well. The high relief carving of the tree and plants on the Fuchi is done superbly, without any flaws. The Kashira has the design of the 2 birds in flight, of course so well done that they show life in their representation. Masayoshi’s use of shakudo, red copper and gold well represent his design. A very nice set to own, and a very good chance to have a genuine work of one of the great masters. In excellent condition.
Note: this set if purchased cannot be delivered until AFTER the San Francisco Show in August. It will be used for the NBTHK lecture on Kinko fittings. How ever they can be picked up at the show after the lecture.
