| Beautiful Ebi (Lobster)
koshirae with all shakudo mountings. Original lacquer is Higo red
orange. Slight damage on ha and mune side of scabbard, but repairable
if needed. Mountings consist of fuchi-kashira, koiguchi, kurikata
and kojiri all matching done in shakudo with a stippled pattern
in very nice condition. Menuki are shakudo with the mon of kiri,
with the screw type mekugi with mon of the Hosokawa family. Kogai
and kozuka are a matched set of male and female phoenix birds.Done
in shakudo nanako, this is a very nice set and should be put through
a shinsa separately. Good sageo multi colored (very expensive) as
well as the old leather tassel on the kojiri. Mounts are on a professionally
made tsunagi and the blade is in good polish in a nice shirasaya.
Hamon is a very nice full temper (hitatsura) done in Soshu style.
Nie deki with nioi, kinsuji, tobiyaki all make up the main portion
of the hamon. Chikei appears in the ji, which is a masame with itame.
Tang has been shortened, and is unsigned. Blade has been attributed
to Shimada Yoshisuke (sometimes read as “Gisuke”) He
is a very well known smith from the Soshu tradition in the Muromachi
period. Both the first and second generation Yoshisuke worked in
full temper. As this word has been attributed directly to Yoshisuke
instead of the school “Shimada” only, we can guess that
this sword is made by either the first or second master. |
