| Tanto Hirazukuri with
bohi (grooves). Late Koto period, Bizen Sukesada swords that are signed
with the "Bizen no Kuni..." are of better made than those
of "Bishu Osafune..." signatures. It is said in some books
that those with the "Bishu Osafune Sukesada" signatures
are most likely massed produced for the war during that period. This
sword has a very nice suguha (straight) temper done in bright nie.
There is activity of kinsuji with some kuichigaiba. Temper in the
point (Boshi) is very very healthy. This sword looks to be a copy
of a Kamakura period Rai tanto. This is not uncommon for good swordsmiths
that want to try to reproduce older famous works. This is another
point that shows that the Sukesada with the longer signature is not
massed produced. In new professional Japanese polish this is a very
nice sword. There is one razor blade type opening on one side, but
not detracting. NBTHK Hozon Token Accompanied by a beautiful original
aikuchi mount done in iron with maple leaves of gold and silver. Nice
gold jabara maki (string wrap ) with beautiful n\menuki of samurai
war accessories. All of the Fuchi Kashira, Koiguchi ,Kurikata, Kojiri
are matching. Kozuka is signed and in iron from the same maker. Scabbard
is Ishime (Stone surface) ground with Roiro leaves imprinted in black.
Habaki is in good condition 2 piece silver foiled with tomo yasuri.
Mountings on tsunagi with blade in new shirasaya. |
