| Nice long katana
mounted in original mounts from the 1800’s. Sword is clean and
in good polish. Hamon is a nice bright gunome midare made of
ko –nie. Grain pattern is a tight itame. Blade is very nice
with a very nice shape, one small fukure. It is said that swords of this shape
are very excellent as cutting swords. The balance is very good.
Tang is original, but the signature we believe to be false. Most
likely this sword is the work of Aizu Kanesada, and the signature
can be removed for the sword to be put through a shinsa. Mountings
are very nice, fuchi kashira and menuki are soft metal with the
family mon of a butterfly. This mon is usually related to that
of the famous Ikeda family. Only samurai could wear such a mon
on their katana during those times. The tsuba is iron, probably
from the Umetada School, with a piecred design of 3 sakura blossoms.
Scabbard is very nice, done in a cinnabar color with a nice soft
metal kojiri. Most likely, this is the original mount for the
sword. Tsukaito has come undone, but can be rewrapped at a special
price if this sword is purchased. . |
