Description
Real Tachi from the late Kamakura – early Nanbokucho period attributed to Enju by the NBTHK. This is a very nice blade, very healthy retaining most of its quality and elegance even though it has been slightly shortened. The hamon is a very healthy suguha that is the main style of the Enju School..The boshi is also SUPER healthy, by looking at this blade one an tell that there were NO chips or nicks taken out, as the width of both the hamon and boshi are bo0th still very wide. This is very important in older blades, as swords that are this healthy are very few. Clean, but in need of a full professional polish to bring it to its best, this blade will be a great one as the hada is very nice and will even be more outstanding after the polish. The hada is a nice itame with masame, chikei appears with inazuma type activity in places. There is awide deep groove running the length of the blade as well. Fumbari is present as it should be in Enju pieces from this time period.
Enju blades are very similar to Rai School blades due to the fact that Enju Kunimura was the son in law of Rai Kuniyuki. There are many Juyo Token and there are Juyo Bunkazai represented by this School , and they are very similiar to rai blades as per the association of Kunimura who trained under Rai Kuniyuki then moved to Higo Kikuchi to open the Enju School. It apparently was in an older Christies auction (Not sure which auction it was yet), and was supposed to be sent for polish and submitted for the Juyo Token shinsa. However the owner has a need for a quick sale, so we decided to give our clients a chance at a real healthy Kamakura Blade. In an old shirasaya, with a sayagaki that is not yet fully translated, but attributes the blade to Enju Kunimura. If you are a serious collector and are looking for a Koto blade from one of the best time periods, here is your chance. New Year Special !!!
