Description
Very nice very long ubu Shinto katana by Kunimasa. He is said to be of the famous Yasusada School, and they are well renowned for their cutting ability. This katana is made very nicely, done in a Soshu style with a hamon of notare (one of the best cutting hamons) made up of nie. Jigane is a nice itame finely done with ji nie. A deep groove runs the length of the blade and is cut very well. Boshi is very healthy and one can tell from the shape that this blade has never been reshaped on the tip. Though the blade is clean enough to see everything, it still could use a professional polish to bring it up to par. What is very notable about this blade is the fact of its excellent balance even with its long strong size. The mounts are in need of some repair, but they are original to the blade. Handle is in good shape, with fuchi kashira done in shakudo and gold with a floral design. The menuki look to be some type of similar design and make as well. The tsuba is a large iron sukashi with a design of ginger leaves. The scabbard is black lacquer , but in need of repair.
