Description |
| On consignment, a very nice fully restored katana attributed to Onizuka Yoshikuni. Yoshikuni is a Jo saku rated smith from around the 1640’s. His blades resemble Hizen swords, and examples such as this one show the similarities. Tight Ko Mokume hada with a very well done suguha hamon carry the characteristics of the Hizen School, but are slightly different in the pattern of the hada, as well as the boshi. Hamon is a straight temper with small activity with ko nie deki. Hada has many chikei that are fine with ji nie. In the shinogi on one side is a opening, but it is not detracting. The tang has been shortened greatly, and is unsigned. NBTHK has attributed this sword to Onizuka Yoshikuni. In full Japanese polish, with a nice new shirasaya. The price is very fair , especially when one is considering the cost of the restoration already done to the sword. |
