Description |
| Late Koto katana in a
rare shape known as kata shinogi zukuri. This is a rare shape
found during the late Koto period usually in swords from the Kyushu
provinces. One side of the blade is the standard shinogi zukuri,
while the other side is hirazukuri. This is a very interesting
blade, as it has a wide body, but a shallow suguha temper known as
ito suguha. Usually this type of temper is found on Satsuma
Naminohira blades, but another guess would be that of the Kongobyoe
School. There is some carving on the blade of characters which
look like they are original to the sword. The hada is a mix
of itame and masame, with some shirake utsuri. One might think
that the blade is tired with the hamon being so low, but this is the
style of such a blade. Encased in a shirasaya with a silver
habaki. |
