Very nice blade from the famous Yamato Taima School. Excellent examples of the Taima School are often very difficult to discern from those blades made by Soshu Yukimitsu. This blade is such an example. A very well made nie deki hamon with lots of activity make one see why it is so difficult to discern between the two (Yukimitsu/Taima), also the jigane has so much nie with large chikei, it has the appearance of being “wet’ which is a top characteristic of any blade that is considered exceptional. Kuichigaiba, nijuba and kinsuji are seen throughout the hamon. Boshi is very healthy with hakikkake. Inazuma is also present (see pics). Because this blade is both healthy with excellent work, it is of course already rated as a Juyo Token. The Taima School is one of the top from the Yamato School as they are so close to the Soshu School in workmanship. This blade was very well cared for, thus its healthy state with no flaws.
Mountings are in very mint condition in a soft metal handachi mount, with a iron tsuba (Nanban) dragon design. Tsuka is in mint condition with gold mon menuki. Saya is a very nice lacquered cloud designed in perfect condition.
For those that want a good example of a very healthy blade from the Late Kamakura/early Nanbokucho period. This blade should not be mistaken with one of those cheaply priced Juyo blades that would not pass by today's higher NBTHK standards. |
