is not only made well in a special Soshu den style (in our opinion
it is a copy of a Go Yoshihiro), but is one of the few made at the
special request of the Minatogawa shrine. This is BEFORE the
shrine had established a forge for the Naval Dept, thus having Sadakatsu
who was the most famous sword smith in the area commissioned to make
some special blades at the request of the shrine. This sword
is to our knowledge, the only one with a special inscription on the
blade done as horimono about an event that occurred in Manshu in Showa
7. Basically it seems that it translates about 3 heroes that
did a great deed in Manshu during the time that Japan officially occupied
Manchukuo. On the other side of the blade, the Kikusui mon of
the Minatogawa Jinja and 2 kanji are engraved on the blade.
The blade is in good Japanese polish. Done in a rare Soshu style
deki, the hamon is a nice blend of notare and gunome with lots of
bright thick nie. Ashi and kinsuji are present as well.
This is a very fine example of a copy of an older Soshu piece from
the Koto period. According to the sayagaki by Tanobe Sensei
of the NBTHK, this sword is very good and should be noticed.
He also writes that the sword is done in Soshu den, along with an
explanation of the special horimono. The hada is a very well
knit masame with itame. In some places, there is almost a feeling
of ayasugi mixed within the jitetsu. Chikei and ji nie are presented
along the hada. The boshi is very healthy and well shaped.
There is one rust pit just above the habaki, this is not a forging
flaw, the polisher had elected to leave the pit due to the importance
of the sword to be in as original shape as possible without further
Nakago; Ubu tang, with special signature of the smiths name and date
on the same side. On the opposite side, The information that
it was very specially made for the Minatogawa shrine also by using
an older blades iron. A silver habaki done in tachi style accompanies
a very nice shirasaya with a beautiful sayagaki done by Tanobe Sensei
of the NBTHK. NBTHK certificate also included. For those
that want a special rare piece that collect either the Gassan School
