| Famous design by the master of the Nishigaki School, Nishigaki Kanshiro. Now offered for a very short time, a highly collectable tsuba by the master of this most famous Higo School. Kanshiro was the top student under Hirata Hikozo, who was directly employed by the Hosokawa Daimyo Sansai. Only Jingo and Kanshiro worked under the first Hirata Master, and works by them are very rare and of very high quality. This design is well known by those who collect high end Higo. The Tomoe kiri design is also in the Higo Kinko Taikan book. In fact at the last Daito Kenichi Sword show, this similar design was on sale for 2 million yen (it was the same tsuba in the Higo Kinko Taikan, but NOT Juyo)
Iron plate with excellent patina that is a top level trait of the Nishigaki School. But when the iron is made by Kanshiro the design as well as the iron quality is a big upgrade when compared to just school pieces. Large sized for a katana, and I believe that the box is from the Hosokawa family as well. |
