OK lets see who is paying attention! Available for a limited time only,tsuba made by the famous Higo artisan Nishigaki Kanshiro. Kanshiro is one of the most famous higo kinko artists, and there are many examples of his that are Juyo. Even rarer are the type of tsuba that are made of soft metal such as this example. This tsuba is made primarily of shinchu (reworked high grade brass), but with the masterful patina it almost appears to be made of copper. Kanshiro like his teacher Hikozo, were masters at working with metals such as brass, copper and shibuichi. They had the extraordinary talent to be able to make such metals look and appear any way they wanted. Kanshiro along with Hikozo and Jingo worked mainly for the Hosokawa family. They made tsuba for the Hosokawa and the main retainers. This tsuba which is offered today is in absolutely perfect condition, papered to the master Nishigaki Kanshiro. Many pieces are only attributed to the school and only say Nishigaki on the paper. I have been asked by many people to put such level of tsuba on the site (usually this type of tsuba I don’t put up openly, but John had asked for some real good tsuba for the site.)
