| Description |
| Excellent Kogai made by the 4th master Goto Kojo. Kojo worked during the late muromachi period, a time in which many say, the Goto family was at their best. The rarity of the attribution on the back by Mitsutaka (13th master) adds to the piece as the 13th master was one of the best in attributions. The wonderfully carved design of a shishi done in solid gold is as classic as mainline Goto gets. In this case, the shishi is made by Kojo, then the kogai base is made by Mitsutaka done in gold uttori of the highest quality. The shakudo nanako plate is impeccable as only master work should be. This was usually done only with very high end pieces to preserve them for later owners. So, in sense, you get the workmanship of 2 mainline masters. Most likely this piece was ordered by a Daimyo to be refitted as was the custom for many mainline pieces that were passed down in a family. In a custom fitted box, NBTHK certified. |
