| Description |
| This is a broad, yet dime-thin tosho tsuba from the Momoyama to Early Edo Period. The iron is finely forged; the thickness measures 1.5mm at the rim, very unusual, and when struck with a finger it has a high ring to it. One face is undecorated, with some remnants of diagonal yasuri, while the other side features two old kanji: 反 "han", which translates to "anti-", "counter", or "against", and 縮, "shuku", "to shrink", "contract", "reduce". Perhaps this relates to some sort of bushi ideal or attitude, to have strong technique, strong will. Rim is slightly hammer-raised; nakago ana has a curious squared cutout in the middle, perhaps once used on a polearm, and there is one hitsuana. NBTHK Hozon papered. |
